Remember Richie

15th April 1957 - 14th August 2010

Richie was Marie & Bill’s first child, and was born in Liverpool.  Richie was a much loved brother of Ann, John, Helen & Sarah.

He grew up in Lydiate and had more of his fair share of scrapes. Marie went through lots of harrowing incidents. The worst accident involved the young Richie being run down and dragged along the road while running to an ice cream van.

Then there was the episode with his front teeth.  After having all kinds of work done to straighten them he came home one night with them both broken!  From then on he had false ones and there are probably a few here today who had had these dropped in to their pint at some time.

After leaving Deyes High school he embarked on a number of different jobs and was always in work.  He had worked as a butcher, a delivery driver for a local engineering firm, sales rep for the same firm; he also had a spell in the Irish Guards; he also worked on a drilling rig in the North Sea; then as a taxi driver.  At one time Richie and his wife Lesley worked as trainee pub managers in the London area until they were rescued by Richie’s dad, Bill and brought back home.

Richie was always a keen sportsman and played for a number of teams in the Sunday leagues but his main love was for body building.  As a youngster he would train with his weights outside the house at Barnes Drive in all weathers.  He kept this up throughout the rest of his life despite being diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy about 12 years ago.  He didn’t allow this to interfere with his life and lived life to the full.   Everyone who knew him would never have believed he had such a condition.

Richie married Lesley in 1981 and they have two sons Brian and Michael.  They lived in Lydiate and then moved to Maghull.  Both Lesley and Richard worked at Ashworth Hospital in Maghull.  Richie & Lesley spent many years together and many happy memories remain.

Richie then started a new life in Aughton with Rhonda and her beautiful daughter Hatti.  He loved them both very much.  He then became a granddad to Brian’s son Mikey who he doted on.  He couldn’t get enough of Mikey and I am sure we will see Richie’s traits in him as he grows up.

Everyone who met Richie soon discovered his wicked sense of humour and his constant practical jokes.  Most of all, everyone loved him for his warmth and overpowering charisma.  He had a larger than life character.  He will be sadly missed by all who love him and will never be forgotten.
